"Practice Safe Dentistry" Patient and Operator Safety for the Veterinary Professional

This lecture intends to debunk some of the confusion when it comes to keeping ourselves and our patients safe before, during, and after dental procedures.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify and discuss risks associated with veterinary dentistry to the veterinary staff.
  2. List personal protective items that one should always wear when performing dental procedures.
  3. Implement safety protocols in their own hospital to ensure a reduction of exposure to potentially harmful biological, chemical, noise levels, and radiation.
  4. Analyze risks to the patient when undergoing anesthesia for dentistry.
  5. Develop safety protocols to ensure patients are properly monitored and vital signs are kept within normal limits before, during, and after the procedure.
  6. Prioritize personal and patient safety.
