WA DOH VBOG Final Rule: Veterinary technician continuing education requirements

Attached is Rule-Making Order CR-103P filed with the Office of the Code Reviser on January 28, 2020, as WSR 20-04-027. The amended rule sets requirements for veterinary technician continuing education.

The board adopted the rules to modernize veterinary technician continuing education rules and streamline requirements. Changes to the rule include decreasing the reporting period from three years to two years; changing the total number of hours required from 30 hours to 20 hours over the two year period; clarifying expectations when a veterinary technician is audited; setting a minimum requirement of 14 scientific or clinical hours; allowing a maximum of 6 hours to be obtained through teaching; designating live, web-based coursework to be equivalent to in-person coursework; and expanding the approved provider list.

The rule will become effective on February 28, 2020. 

Any person may petition the amendment of these rules in accordance with RCW 34.05.330
